Last Saturday, 2 April 2011, all Moot Teams from the Swiss Universities travelled to Berne to attend the 9th edition of the Swiss Day and to demonstrate what they had learned in the past few weeks in the course of the preparations for Vienna.
Each of the seven teams - Berne, Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, St. Galles, Zurich and of course the Lucerne Team - would have two pleading sessions against other teams in front of a three-member arbitral panel which would evaluate the individual performances of the speakers. The Team with the best average score (per round) would consequently win the Swiss Day..
...and the winner is: University of Lucerne!!
After two rounds of intense pleadings against the teams of Geneva and Lausanne, the Lucerne Mooties (Daniel Gabrieli, Corina Mebert, Roxane Schmidgall und Stephanie Zehnder) finally won the Swiss Day! Thus, already for the second time after Prague, the Lucerne Mooties succeded in a Moot competition.
Moreover, Roxane Schmidgall, had additional reason to celebrate, since she was elected "best oralist" of the Swiss Day!
Congratulations to all the Mooties for their achievement!
Then take advantage of the opportunity to get an insight into the Mooties' life during the preparations for Vienna and attend a pleading at Vischer, one of the leading law firms in Switzerland, located in Zurich, which is kindly hosting and organizing the Pleading Day!

Until the day the Moot teams prepared autonimously for the big event in Vienna. However, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Claire Huguenin, Team Coach Benjamin Gottlieb and the Zurich Coaching team presented the idea of oranizing and conducting a joint preparation school for all the mooties of the several Swiss moot teams.
The idea enjoyed huge popularity and was implemented right away, resulting in a four-day workshop called "the Vis Moot School Switzerland".
Professors, practitioners and moot coaches jointly introduce the mooties into the arcana of the Willem C. Vis Moot World. Attending classes on different subjects and aspects of International Commercial Arbitration, the CISG, or written and oral advocacy skills, the mooties get an extensive preparation school in order to be ready for the big challenge - the 18th Willem C. Vis Moot Court.
The Lucerne Team would like to thank the Team Zurich for hosting the Vis Moot School Switzerland and is looking forward for another great experience!
Our Mooties participating at the 17th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court advanced to the round of the best 32 teams out of more than 250 competing teams worldwide!
Moreover, Andrea Florin, Sasa Drobnjak, Caroline Hasler, Michael Burkhart, Laurin, Katz, Anna Balcerzak and Shreya Parikh were awarded an "honorable mention" for the written Memorandum for Respondent, and Shreya Parikh can take a pride in the "honorable mention" for her oral presentation!
Congratulations to the Lucerne Willem C. Vis Moot Team 2009-2010!
In the end of January the team has entered the final stage of the Vienna Moot - the pleading phase.
Until April the Mooties will have internal testruns with their coaches, plead in front of experienced lawyers and arbitrators in the context of external testruns, and travel to various places in Switzerland and Europe in order to compete against other teams.
On December 3, the Lucerne Willem C. Vis Moot Team submitted its Memorandum for Claimant to Vienna, thereby completing the first part of the Moot journey. Congrats!
On October 2, the Problem of the 17th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot has been unveiled on the official website of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court.
